J and I rewarded ourselves a bowl of steamy, hot ramen at Muratama after we finished work at the office on Saturday. There’s so much buzz about this ramen place that opened at The Central (At Clarke Quay). I’ve personally walked past it a couple of times but didn’t actually try it because there is just too many Japanese restaurants at The Central waiting for me.
We arrived at about 2 plus pm so there were readily available seats. But soon after we ordered our ramen, there put up a ‘sold out’ signage. I wonder if we were lucky or not. Both of us ordered the standard Muratama ramen. This Tokyo-styled ramen is served with seaweed, negi (spring onions), and a slice of char siew (pork). The soup base is made from chicken stock unlike many other places which uses pork. I still find that Miharu serves the best ramen in Singapore. I love its Sapporo styled springy noodles and its richly flavoured broth. The one at Muratama was oily without being richly flavoured enough. I do wonder why they choose to use chicken stock instead.
Another thing is that though I cannot compare its noodles to the ones served at Miharu (because they are different styles), the noodles served here are too “fine”. I still miss the Kyushu-Jangara we ate at Tokyo. I heard that Tampopo (Liang Court) serves that, but I do wonder if it will be comparable(or decent enough) to the one that I had in Tokyo. How I wish I could just take a flight to Japan this very minute- The land of Pierre Herme, Sadaharu Aoiki, wonderful ramen and fresh from the sea sashimi.
